Here at Reeder Distributors, we help fleet operators across Texas and Oklahoma manage their fleet vehicles with our Reeder fleet cards. Cars run the world, literally; we couldn’t sustain our current population without our major transportation networks. To celebrate all of the drivers out there keeping the cogs turning, we thought we would list some fun car facts for your enjoyment here.
When you think of going green in regards to automobiles, you probably think of hybrid and electric cars. But cars were originally considered the green option. That is because when they first rolled out early in the 20th century, before mass production contributed to CO2 in the atmosphere, they were considered a green alternative to horse drawn carriages, which caused pollution in the form of feces dropped all along major roadways.
Built to Last
You may recognize Ford’s motto “Built to last”. Well, they proved their motto during a safety test on the Ford GT. During the crushing test, where a crushing machine is used to on a vehicle, the roof of the Ford GT was so strong that it broke the machine, rather than the other way around.
Also Built to Last
It may not be their motto, but Rolls Royce is another car manufacturer worthy of the title “built to last”. That is because of all of the cars in the world that Rolls Royce has produced, 75 percent of them are still on the road. That is a pretty impressive lifespan!
Speaking of Rolls Royces, they are an extremely popular car worldwide, especially due to their luxury designs. But you may be surprised to find out where they are most popular; that would be in Hong Kong, where they are more Rolls Royces per capita than in any other place on earth.
Everyone knows that cars are one of the biggest investments people make in their lives, and that is just talking about used cars, but there is actually a huge range in prices in how much a vehicle can cost. On the upper end, the most expensive car that was ever sold was the 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe. It sold for a whopping price tag of 8,700,000 million dollars.
Bigger Is Better
When it comes to limousines (especially in Texas), bigger is better. So by that logic, what is the biggest, and best, limousine out there? That title goes to the “Midnight Rider”, a 50,560 lb limousine that holds up to 40 passengers, and boasts three lounges as well as a stand alone bar.
Everybody is always complaining about gas prices, and they do get expensive. But, sometimes it is good to put a little perspective into things. For instance, it is weird that people complain about gas prices more than they do about coffee prices, considering a gallon of Starbucks coffee costs about eight times as much as a gallon of gasoline.
There are a lot of dirty cars on the road, but some studies have put those numbers into perspective. For instance, one study found that 53 percent of American car owners only wash their cars once every month.
